Montgomery Township Police said the duration of the outage depends on PECO
Several downed power lines near Airport Square Shopping Center in Montgomery Township have caused significant traffic signal outages and power outages along and surrounding North Wales Road Tuesday morning.
Montgomery Township Police announced on Facebook Tuesday morning that signals at North Wales and Knapp roads and North Wales and Welsh roads are down and operating with four-way stop signs.
Police said the duration of the incident is dependent on PECO’s ability to repair the lines.
Residents and businesses reported experiencing power outages online, including at Airport Square Shopping Center. Police said residents experiencing outages in their homes should report a damage claim to PECO by calling 1-800-494-4000 or visiting https://www.peco.com/.../customer.../contact-us/damage-claim.
At least two transformers exploded at the intersection of North Wales and Welsh roads in Montgomery Township, igniting traffic poles, and temporarily closing the intersection to traffic around 6:32 a.m., according to Montgomery County emergency radio dispatch.
As of 11 a.m., both intersections were open and operating with four-way stop signs in place until repairs are made, Lansdale Police said.
Residents reported power outages on Clear Spring Road in Lansdale Borough, across from Hillcrest Shopping Center, as well as outages at Airport Square Shopping Center and possibly at
Lansdale Police are assisting Montgomery Township Police at the scene, along with Upper Gwynedd Fire Co.
Meanwhile, around the same time, according to Montgomery County emergency radio notes, Fire Department of Montgomery Township were called to the Route 202 Parkway and Horsham Road for another electrical fire, with sparks and visible smoke emitting from a traffic pole.
At 7:48 a.m., fire police were called to the scene, according to county dispatch. Callers also reported that the fire was coming from an electrical box by the traffic pole in front of Advance Auto Parts, but the fire on the traffic poles extinguished on its own.
Avoid the area and find detours, as PECO crews are on scene to remedy the issue.
