Hatfield Police have announced a sobriety checkpoint by the North Penn Area DUI Task Force for the upcoming weekend.
The checkpoint is scheduled for Friday through Sunday on Routes 63, 463 (Cowpath Road), 113 and 309, as well as other state, county and local roadways, police said.
The goal of the checkpoint, police said, is to identify and remove impaired, drunk and drugged drivers from the road, in order to provide travelers with safe transit in the county.
Patrols will be conducted in areas that have been identified as locations where alcohol has been a significant factor in unsafe driving and vehicle crashes, police said.
In addition to DUI enforcement, police will also enforce aggressive driving, unlicensed or suspended operator licenses, proof of insurance, vehicle registration, vehicle equipment, and other traffic violations, police said.
The North Penn DUI Task Force encouraged drivers to seek other available transportation options, including ride shares and designated drivers.
