The crash occurred in the southbound lane of the pike, near Avenel Apartments
A 71-year-old man from Lansdale is in critical, but stable, condition Thursday afternoon after he was hit by a car around 6 a.m. Thursday on DeKalb Pike in Montgomery Township.
Police said the driver of a white 2016 Toyota Corolla was south on DeKalb Pike in the right straight lane, and hit the pedestrian as he was crossing DeKalb Pike from the Avenel Apartments toward Cheswick Drive.
According to Montgomery County emergency dispatch following the 6:08 a.m. crash, the victim suffered a head laceration and a fractured leg. Police confirmed the victim suffered head, torso and leg injuries.
The driver of the striking vehicle remained on scene. The investigation is ongoing and criminal charges are undetermined at this time.
Montgomery Township Police were assisted by VMSC Emergency Medical Services, Lower Salford Police (as part of the North Penn Crash Team Response), Fire Department of Montgomery Township, and fire police.
Southbound Dekalb Pike was closed Thursday morning during rush hour between Knapp Road and Montgomery Mall.
