Hart hauls in two TDs as Walsh throws three scores in Suburban One crossover

Souderton leaned on its versatility Friday night, with a number of two-way players making key contributions on both sides of the ball in a 19-7 Suburban One League crossover victory at Central Bucks South.

According to a gameplay report from The Reporter, sophomore Chase Hart delivered the spark for the Indians (2-0), catching a pair of touchdown passes from senior quarterback Ben Walsh while also anchoring the defense at linebacker. Walsh, who completed 13 of 17 passes for 160 yards, tossed all three of Souderton’s touchdowns — including a fourth-quarter strike to senior Timmy Meehan to seal the win, according to the article.

“We went into this game, everyone was doubting us, thinking we were going to lose because CB South’s been great for years, but we stepped up and we grinded,” Hart said in the report. “That’s what great teams do and we had a team win tonight.”

Defensive effort sets the tone

While Walsh and Hart connected twice through the air, Souderton’s defense contained a Titans’ offense that relied on multiple runners. The only slip came on a 56-yard touchdown run by CB South quarterback Cade Crim in the first quarter that briefly tied the game, according to the article.

From there, Big Red’s defensive front stiffened. Meehan forced a fumble that Ares Deardorff recovered, while Michael McCormick, Will Dower and Djecy Ngoyi clogged lanes and pressured the quarterback, according to The Reporter. Souderton’s secondary also came up with stops, highlighted by an interception from Hunter Smeltz.

Key drives decide the game

After Hart’s first touchdown, South answered immediately with Crim’s long run. The Titans (0-2) nearly went ahead before halftime, but Souderton’s hurry-up offense instead reclaimed momentum as Walsh drove the field and found Hart again, this time for a 19-yard score with 18 seconds left in the half, according to the gameplay report.

CB South’s best chance came late in the third quarter with a long drive into the red zone, but penalties wiped out two touchdowns and the team missed a field goal, according to the report.

Souderton will return home Friday to host Central Bucks West in another crossover test. CB South will travel to Upper Dublin, with both teams seeking their first conference win.
