The Warriors scored three quick goals after halftime to secure a 6-1 win and a rematch with Souderton
A sluggish start gave way to an explosive second half for the Methacton field hockey team Wednesday night, as the Warriors stormed past visiting North Penn 6-1 in the District 1-3A second round.
After taking a 2-0 lead into halftime, Methacton opened the third quarter with three goals in less than two minutes to break the game open, according to gameplay coverage from The Mercury.
Head coach Amanda Parrezzi said her team’s halftime reset made all the difference.
“We started the first half kind of slow,” she told The Mercury. “They were beating us to the balls, they were outworking us. In the second half, we turned it around… and that was enough to kind of open the floodgates.”
Calie Fisher led the Warriors with two goals, while Lea DeWan assisted on three. Fisher said the team is far from content.
For North Penn (11-9), senior defender Tallie Smink scored the lone goal on a corner in the third quarter. Head coach Shannon McCracken credited her team for its resilience despite facing one of the PAC’s top offenses.
“We were outmatched in a lot of places on the field,” she told The Mercury. “I was really proud that we were holding on, but I knew we would potentially run out of some game. They’re a really good team.”
PAC champion Methacton (17-2-2) advances to its sixth straight district quarterfinal, where it will host fifth-seeded Souderton on Friday.
