Jefferson Health, which includes Lehigh Valley Health Network, will cut about 1% of its workforce — roughly 600 to 700 positions — as part of a systemwide belt-tightening. A spokesperson said details on which jobs or locations are affected were not available. The move comes a little over a year after Jefferson and LVHN completed their merger.

CEO Dr. Joseph Cacchione said the system must “align our operations for the future” amid significant financial headwinds. Recent filings show Jefferson posted an operating loss in fiscal 2025, with Jefferson Health Plans accounting for a large share of the red ink; industry reports pegged that health-plan shortfall at about $170 million.

The layoffs mark another round of cuts for the Philadelphia-based academic health system, which previously reduced about 400 jobs in 2023. Credit analysts have also flagged pressure on Jefferson’s outlook in recent months.
