Hosted by York Avenue Parents in Equity and Rising Suns Yoga, these morning sessions have brought peaceful energy and much-needed funds to the school community
Every Saturday morning this fall, York Avenue Elementary was transformed into a little haven of peace, sun salutations, and community spirit.
The community can join neighbors for one last round of Community Yoga Saturdays at York Avenue Elementary — before the autumn chill rolls in for good.
Hosted by York Avenue Parents in Equity and Rising Suns Yoga, these morning sessions have brought peaceful energy to the York Avenue playground all fall, with instructor Dawn Coe Meyer guiding participants through mindful movement, breathwork, and plenty of “Om” under the open sky.
It is more than exercise: it is communion, a shared pause before the buzz of the day begins. And better yet — every dollar raised goes toward making the Yellowjackets’ playground safer, more inclusive, and more vibrant.
The final three classes of the season will be held this Saturday, and two more times on Oct. 18 and Oct. 25 at 8 a.m., each lasting 45 minutes on the playspace at York Avenue Elementary at 700 York Ave. in Lansdale.
Bring a yoga mat or towel; class is held outdoors, weather permitting. (If rain threatens, updates will be posted via Rising Suns Yoga and York Avenue Home & School’s social media.)
The cost is $12 to preregister or $15 for drop-ins, with proceeds supporting Project Mulch — the school’s playground revitalization effort to create a more inclusive and sustainable play space for every child. School volunteers are also working to control drainage issues at the school.
Payments can be made by Venmo or PayPal, and yes, you are welcome to round up in support of Project Mulch.
York Avenue Elementary itself has long been a hub of community engagement, from DARE graduations to school spirit events. In June 2025, for instance, York Avenue’s fifth graders were escorted to the Lansdale Police Department for a special celebration marking their completion of the DARE program — a reminder that the school is committed to safety, values, and connection beyond academics.
Whether you’re a veteran yogi or someone just curious to try, this is your invite: come breathe, stretch, and build together.
Each pose, each “Om,” each shared morning brings each community member closer to themselves, and the school closer to a more joyful future for York Avenue’s own Yellowjackets.
