A man with no fixed address has been charged with felony counts of burglary and criminal trespass after Hatfield Police said he was found unlawfully inside a vacant home on North Broad Street.

According to a criminal complaint, officers were called to the area along the 2600 block of North Broad Street on Sept. 28 after a witness reported seeing a suspicious man behind a nearby property.

Police said the man, identified as Thomas Alexander Carrington, 36, was later located inside the unsecured residence.

Officers reported the home contained a cot, folding chairs, food items, and bottles of water and urine. Carrington was discovered crouched inside a closet wearing a yellow shirt and black pants, police said. He was detained without further incident.

Investigators said Carrington initially claimed he owned the property but could not produce documents to prove it. A check of county tax records confirmed the property belonged to another individual, who told police no one had permission to be in the home and that it had been locked several weeks earlier, according to the complaint.

Carrington is jailed on 10% of $10,077 cash bail and has a preliminary hearing Oct. 21 before Magisterial District Judge Andrea Duffy.

According to court records, one day after the Hatfield arrest, Carrington was charged by Warrington Police in Bucks County with felony retail heft and receiving stolen property offenses, stemming from a Sept. 27 incident. Bail in that arrest was set at 10% of $50,000 cash, according to Bucks County district court documents.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
