A Bucks County judge is weighing whether to temporarily halt Sheriff Fred Harran’s controversial agreement with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, known as the 287(g) program.

Judge Jeffrey G. Trauger said he expects to issue a ruling by the end of October after reviewing briefs from both sides, which are due Oct. 10, according to The Reporter.

The ACLU has sued the Sheriff’s Office, arguing the agreement was entered without approval from county commissioners and improperly deputizes local law enforcement to assist federal immigration agents, per the report.

At a recent hearing, immigrant advocacy group Make the Road Pennsylvania raised concerns that the program could lead to racial profiling, with members testifying they feared being targeted despite being U.S. citizens.
