The life sciences researcher formed in 2024 following the merger of Electron Microscopy Sciences and Azer Scientific
A Hatfield Township health care and life sciences researcher has announced the closure of its Montgomery County location by the end of January 2026.
According to a state Department of Labor Employment and Workforce Development WARN Notice, Biolyst Scientific is closing its 1560 Industry Road site, affecting 76 employees. The effective date begins Jan. 12 and ends Jan. 26.
Biolyst Scientific formed in 2024, from the merging of Electron Microscopy Sciences and Azer Scientific into one company. Azer Scientific, in Morgantown, Pa., was founded in 2004, eventually inventing glucose tolerance drinks. Two of its products were recalled in 2016.
Hatfield’s EMS was founded in 1969 and became the exclusive North American distributor of Aurion products in 2005, according to the Biolyst website.
According to its website, Biolyst provides “clinicians and researchers with the tools needed to advance discovery in the life sciences.”

Biolyst’s advisory board includes Chief Technology Officer Reza Ardekani, Electron Microscopy Sciences founder and former CEO Stacie Kirsch, and Azer Scientific Director of Business Development and Birch Biotech President Adam Ardekani. Its leadership team includes CEO Jay Hexamer, COO John Andzulis, CFO Bill Sommers, Director of Quality & Regulatory Affairs Mariana Oliveira, Senior Director of Product Management Ralph Finkbiner, Director of Strategic Accounts Steve Fithian, Senior Director of Sales Mike Lake, Senior Director of Distribution & OEM Alex Abejar, and Reza Ardekani.
The company listed two headquarters, one on Industry Road and a second on Hemlock Road in Morgantown, located south of Reading and southwest of Pottstown.
