The Lansdale Catholic girls volleyball team will play for a state title for the first time in program history after storming back from an early deficit to sweep Delone Catholic in Tuesday’s PIAA Class 2A semifinal at Cocalico High School, according to gameplay reports by The Reporter.

After trailing 20-12 in the opening set, the Crusaders rallied to a dramatic 28-26 win behind senior Ellie Carickhoff’s go-ahead kill and key defensive plays from Marissa Passerini, according to gameplay coverage.

That surge carried through the next two sets as LC closed out the District 3 champions 25-19 and 25-18 to complete the sweep. Carickhoff led with 15 kills, while Greta Swope added 10.

Lansdale Catholic will face Avonworth — a 3-1 winner over Corry — in the PIAA Class 2A championship match at 1 p.m. Saturday at Cumberland Valley High School. Both programs are making their first title-game appearance.
