Following a successful first show at Poppy’s Tavern in Hatfield this past weekend, the Lansdale DIY music scene continues to thrive with three shows this week. These shows will all be at the current home-base for original music in the area: Harper & Penny’s Lansdale.
Starting things off this Tuesday will be Powerline Trail, a younger band from Philly that will be playing Lansdale for the first time. Combining heavy and emotive music, they should fit right it with hometown pop-punk heavyweights Twentytwo. The scene veterans in Twentytwo will be headlining this midweek melee.
Coming all the way from California, Crooked Teeth will be playing right in the middle of the Tuesday gig. The West Coast pop-punk band is playing a few dates in support of the band Girlfriends this week and will be fitting this lovely Tuesday night in Lansdale between those shows.
As it is a Tuesday (that isn’t the first), Harper & Penny’s trivia will be taking place as well, but with a much different set up than the usual one. Instead of four back-to-back cumulative rounds, there will be four rounds with musical breaks in between. Those breaks will be in the form of the aforementioned bands! The rounds will feature questions pertaining to the punk and indie music world to keep with the assumed theme of the week at Harper & Penny’s. Winners of each round will win a drink of their choice! First trivia round will start at 6:45, with music starting around 7. The last round will start around 9, after the show ends. Trivia is free to play as always, but any contributions to the show will help the touring bands and are always encouraged.
Wednesday is Poker Night, so if you are looking to try the new fall menu out at Harper & Penny’s, this will be the quietest chance you’ll have all week! The music will be back on Thursday, with even more out-of-town talent.
Thursday’s show features Midwest emo aficionados Redland Field, returning to Harper & Penny’s after playing there for the first time last month. Also returning from Philly after their first show last month is Whale Teeth. Coming all the way from Pittsburgh, Mister Strawberry will be stopping through on their way to Jersey the next day. Chrysanthemum will be opening the show with doors opening at 7.
Friday will be free-to-play Music Bingo, hosted by Kali Coutour. This will be your second-quietest night to try the new Harper & Penny’s menu all week.
Saturday night marks the return of local favorites Clockwork Stenographer and Crosseyed, bringing their sad and heavy grooves back to Wood street for the masses. Joining them on the lineup is Faded Mourning and Dome Peace. Both of these bands have yet to play Harper & Penny’s, hopefully this night gives the same bounty that virtually all shows around here seem to see.
All the shows this week are All-Ages, with the $10 cover going right back to the musicians playing. Anyone that may not have money to cover the door is encouraged to come anyway, as we would all much rather have you there than not!
Plenty more shows to come before the end of the year. Original acts, Karaoke Roasts, Tribute sets, Open-Mics, Drag Music Bingo…the list continues. More things are happening in town than ever right now. Come see what the hype is about.
