A transient man has been sentenced to probation after pleading guilty last week to misdemeanor indecent exposure for exposing his genitals, masturbating and defecating outside Yum Yum Bake Shop in Colmar earlier this summer.

Gary Thomas Manai, 68, who police said is homeless but resides in the Lansdale area, was sentenced to 18 months of probation Oct. 30 by Montgomery County Common Pleas Judge Risa Vetri Ferman, who was just re-elected to her post with no opposition on Election Day.

Manai is banned from the Dairy Queen at 2620 North Broad Street in Colmar, per court order.

Police were dispatched to Dairy Queen at 8:53 p.m. June 21, 2025, for a report of a man exposing himself in the parking lot. While en route, police were informed by Montgomery County Emergency Services that Manai was wearing a red shirt, black shorts, and carrying a white Target bag, according to the complaint.

Upon arrival, police found Manai standing in front of the Dairy Queen, and was known from prior police contacts, according to the complaint.

The caller told police that she, her husband and their 9-year-old daughter were inside of their vehicle in the drive-through of Dairy Queen, when she saw Manai standing next to Yum Yum Bake Shop at 100 Bethlehem Pike, police said.

The caller saw Manai drop his pants, fully exposing himself with his genitals in his hand, police said. She said she saw Manai moving his hands in an “up and down motion” while his pants were down, police said.

Police said the woman is the only person inside the car that saw Manai’s genitals. Manai also defecated on the sidewalk, police said, before walking up to each car in the drive-through at Dairy Queen repeatedly requesting a lighter for his cigarette.

Police said fecal matter was found on the sidewalk outside Yum Yum Bake Shop.

Manai was represented by public defender John Pavloff.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
