Wedgewood Park Traffic Garden and West Fifth Street Park to host ribbon-cuttings and activities for children
Lansdale will mark the completion of two major Parks and Recreation projects this weekend, inviting families to explore new amenities built to promote safety, accessibility, and outdoor fun.
The day will begin with the grand opening of the Wedgewood Park Traffic Garden, set for 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday. The new feature is a scaled-down road system painted on the asphalt pad next to the skate park, designed to help children safely learn the rules of the road on bikes and scooters.
The project was completed in partnership with Montgomery County through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Community Traffic Safety Project Grant. Free helmet fittings will also be offered for children who need one.
“This is a great way for kids to safely learn the rules of the road on bikes and scooters,” said Lansdale Parks and Recreation Director Courtney Fox, who encouraged families to stop by and test out the colorful layout.
Funding for the West Fifth Street Park improvements came from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the Montgomery County Office of Health and Human Development’s Community Development Block Grant Program, and a donation from the Afzul Family Foundation.
“We’re excited to showcase these improvements and provide residents with safe, accessible spaces to enjoy year-round,” Fox said.
