In celebration of National Volunteer Week, which was recognized April 20-26, Jefferson Lansdale Hospital’s Age Friendly Program hosted an awards luncheon to recognize volunteers for their dedicated service.
During the luncheon, Dr. Nataliya Dementovych, medical director of the Age-Friendly Program at Jefferson Lansdale Hospital and Carole Nigro, MSN, RN, GERO-BC, nurse navigator in the Age-Friendly, Hospital Elder Life & Mobility programs at Jefferson Lansdale Hospital, presented 10 volunteers with the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA).

The volunteers are part of the Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP). As part of the program, volunteers visit geriatric patients at Jefferson Lansdale Hospital to offer social support. Volunteers also help patients to engage in mentally stimulating activities, which can reduce the risk of delirium and help prevent cognitive and functional decline.
The PVSA is a nationally recognized award created in 2003, which has continued under each administration, to honor volunteers across the country whose work positively impacts the communities in which they serve. Led by AmeriCorps and managed in partnership with Points of Light, organizations must meet certain eligibility requirements in order to present this award to their exceptional volunteers. Awards are presented at different levels based on age and the number of annual service hours.
