The Board of Trustees of Dock Mennonite Academy announced that Jason Moyer has been named the school’s next superintendent, effective at the beginning of the 2025-26 school year.

Moyer, a 2001 graduate of Dock Mennonite Academy, will succeed Conrad Swartzentruber, who will retire at the end of this school year.

Moyer served as vice president of enrollment management and executive director of partnerships and innovation at Malone University in Canton, Ohio, where he also worked as the department chairman and a tenured faculty member in the Department of Communication.

Most recently, he was the chief academic officer of Zollikon Institute in Holmes County, Ohio. Swartzentruber arrived at Dock in 2009 as principal of what was then Christopher Dock Mennonite High School and led the school through several years of work toward unifying with Penn View Christian School into a combined K-through-12  “Dock Mennonite Academy” that named Swartzentruber its first superintendent in 2016.

“Under the care of Dr. Swartzentruber, two strong Mennonite schools successfully merged into Dock Mennonite Academy, and Dock’s mission and programs have grown,” said Scott Heckler, chairperson of the Dock Board of Trustees.

“In Dr. Moyer, I am confident that we have found a leader who will work with the Dock team to continue this great tradition of developing the programs and infrastructure needed to ‘inspire and equip each student to serve with a global perspective through integrated faith, excellent academic and life-enriching opportunities in a Christ-centered community,’ as our mission states.”

Moyer earned his Ph.D. in communication from the University of Iowa and a bachelor of arts degree from Bluffton University. His family attends Maple Grove Mennonite Church in Hartville, Ohio.

In 2018, Moyer chaired the board of Summit Mennonite Church in Barberton, Ohio, and was a long-time board member of The Mennonite. Moyer was named on the Twenty Under Forty List: Twenty Exceptional Young Professionals Under Forty Who Live and Work in Stark County in 2019, and he also received the 2011 Religious Communication Dissertation of the Year Award from the Religious Communication Association.

Moyer, his wife Stephanie, and their two children look forward to moving to the area, where their children will attend Dock.

“I am deeply honored to return to Dock Mennonite Academy, a place that has profoundly shaped my life and faith,” said Moyer.

“As an alumnus, I know firsthand the transformative power of a Jesus-centered education, and I am committed to ensuring that Dock continues to deliver exceptional learning experiences while fostering the spiritual growth of each student. I look forward to working with the entire Dock community to build on the legacy of faculty and staff who mentor students through immersive academics, meaningful service, competitive athletics, and dynamic arts — guiding them on a transformative journey of faith, wisdom, and character.”

The board has appointed a Transition Team, led by Assistant Superintendent Sharon Fransen, to develop and oversee a leadership transition plan. This plan includes meaningful opportunities to honor Dr. Swartzentruber for his many years of dedicated service while also creating ways to warmly welcome Moyer to Dock.

Dock Mennonite Academy’s mission is to inspire and equip students from early childhood to high school to serve with a global perspective by integrating faith, academic excellence, and life-enriching opportunities in a Christ-centered community.

The vision of Dock is to continue to be a leader in Anabaptist, Christ-centered education where every student belongs and thrives in an engaging, inspiring, and challenging environment to better serve their community and our world.

Dock’s graduate profile defines the mission of Christ-centered service through the broad impact made in fields such as the arts, law, business, athletics, education, healthcare, and church leadership.
