Parx Casino license renewal still hanging in the air

Whether the Parx Casino license will be renewed depends on the community members and public officials. They are summoned to a hearing on 3 April 2025, which aims to give the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) a clear overview of the casino’s operations and help them make a decision.

The fate of two license renewals will be decided that day – the Greenwood Gaming Entertainment and the Mountainview Thoroughbred Racing Association. The former operates the Parx Casino in Bucks County, while the latter is in charge of the Hollywood Casino Morgantown in Berks County.

Gambling is a huge source of profit for Pennsylvania’s economy, which is why the renewal of casino licenses works for everyone’s benefit. The state’s gambling revenue reached $564.2 million in November 2024 – greatly impacted by the immense growth of iGaming and sports wagering.

At the moment, there are approximately 23 online casinos in the state, giving you a chance to choose where you want to register based on your preferences. There are also plenty of online options available. Whether you’re chasing low casino deposit requirements or instant withdrawals, the market’s variety leaves you with plenty of options and very little room for error.

As online gambling participation in the state increases—with one in five Pennsylvania adults playing in online casinos—so does the public’s interest and the industry’s effect on the economy. November’s gaming revenue reflects a 26.6% year-on-year increase. From the total revenue of $564.2, the online gambling industry contributed $200.5 million, making it an MVP for the state’s economy

iGaming isn’t the only form of gambling that’s on the rise, as sports betting is also doing exceptionally well. Statistics show that Americans have wagered almost $450 billion on sports since it became legal in 2018. Pennsylvania’s sports wagering revenue jumped to $77.1 million, signifying a staggering 498% growth.

Online casinos might be gaining momentum, but they still haven’t completely taken over land-based establishments, which remain a huge source of profit. However, the numbers are speaking for themselves, and they show that retail table games are seeing a decline of 2.45%. Despite that, revenue from in-person gambling still managed to garner $50 billion in 2023, showing that land-based casinos are still a power to be reckoned with.

The two mentioned here—Parx Casino and Hollywood Casino Morgantown—are among the best, most visited ones. Parx Casino’s location—Bucks County—is considered to be one of the best places to live in Pennsylvania, giving it an additional edge. The county’s officials show great care for the community and all of its members. Thus, they provide school training in mental health, hold interesting events on special days and holidays, and give their residents a plethora of coffee shops, parks, and restaurants to visit.

Naturally, the renewal of their license would be a matter of interest for many people and officials. All residents, community groups, and public officials who want to be involved in the matter can speak their minds at the Bensalem Township Municipal Building and the Caernarvon Township Building.

Pennsylvania has gambling regulations that dictate that active licenses must undergo a renewal process from time to time. The process is somewhat straightforward, and it consists of two stages. The first stage has so far been discussed, as it’s concerned with a public hearing that’s used to collect testimonials; the second one is held in Harrisburg, and the board members are asked to review the evidence collected.

The final decision regarding potential approval or disapproval is made based on a few criteria, such as the impact the casino has on the community, the number of jobs it provides, and the extent to which it complies with the industry’s rules and regulations.

There’s no definitive answer to when the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board will make its decision. If they rule in favor of Parx Casino’s license renewal, they, along with the Hollywood Morgantown Casino, will be able to operate without interruption for the next five years. The decision will not be made lightly, as the board will have a lot of evidence to go through after the hearing.

The fate of the two casinos mostly depends on the people who participate during the hearing. They have the job of showing proof of whether the casinos operate in compliance with the regulations and whether they meet all the licensing conditions.
