Upper Gwynedd Police said the victim likely died upon impact from the June 12 accident on Allentown Road
The Montgomery County Coroner has identified the bicyclist killed after being hit by a car on Allentown Road near Green Street in Upper Gwynedd Township earlier this month.
The deceased is John Erven Stone, 55, of the 1400 block of Oxford Circle, Upper Gwynedd. His cause of death was the ligamentous separation of the spinal column from the skull base, commonly referred to as internal decapitation.
Upper Gwynedd Police said an investigation is under review by the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, who will make a determination on what charges, if any, will be filed against the driver.
Police did not release the name of the driver.
On June 12 at 5:57 p.m., police responded to an accident involving a bicycle and a 2019 Honda Accord at the intersection.
Police said both the Honda and Stone were traveling on Allentown Road from Valley Forge Road toward Broad Street. Stone made a left turn from the shoulder toward Green Street, entered the path of travel of the Honda, and was impacted by the front driver side of the car, police said.
Based on the findings of the coroner, Stone died upon impact, police said.
Allentown Road was closed until 10:12 p.m.
According to reports from the scene, numerous bystanders attempted to assist in saving Stone’s life by performing CPR at the scene, until police and VMSC EMS arrived and took over lifesaving measures.
Upper Gwynedd Police were assisted at the scene by VMSC Emergency Medical Services, members of the North Penn Area Crash Team, and Montgomery County detectives.
Police welcome any witnesses who have not already come forward with information or video to contact them.
No obituary information was available online for Stone, who was laid to rest June 21 at Eden Cemetery in Collingdale, PA, according to Francis Funeral Home.
