Bicyclist succumbs to injuries after being hit by car on Allentown Road Thursday night

The bicyclist who was hit by a car on Allentown Road near Green Street in Upper Gwynedd Township Thursday evening has succumbed to his injuries, police announced Friday.

Upper Gwynedd Police announced the death on Facebook, stating the investigation is ongoing. 

"We wanted to thank everyone who stopped to assist and for the community’s patience and understanding while the roads were closed," police said on Facebook.

According to reports from the scene, numerous bystanders attempted to assist in saving the man’s life by performing CPR at the scene, until Upper Gwynedd Police arrived and took over lifesaving measures. VMSC Emergency Medical Services personnel quickly treated the pedestrian on the ground, and CPR was active as of 6:15 p.m. Thursday. He was then placed on a stretcher, where lifesaving measures continued inside the ambulance, where the patient succumbed at the hospital. 

According to Montgomery County emergency dispatch reports, the patient was unconscious, bleeding from the head and arm, and was about 40 years old. 

The victim's name has not been released by police. The driver of the striking vehicle did stop after the collision. 

Upper Gwynedd Township Police was assisted by Upper Gwynedd Fire Co.

Allentown Road was closed near Green Street for a period of time.
