Lansdale’s Parks & Recreation Department is putting the final polish on a years-long transformation at White's Road Park, an upgrade might be the most universally appreciated of all: a brand-new, permanent restroom facility.
Delivered this past Thursday, the long-anticipated building sits just downhill from the recently added pavilion and near the park’s popular inclusive playground and Charlie the Cat memorial. The doors of the facility face the basketball and tennis courts and the handicapped parking area accessible from Green Street in Upper Gwynedd.
Although the restrooms aren’t open just yet, Lansdale Parks & Recreation Director Courtney Fox said visitors will not have to wait long.
“It will take a few weeks to finish the plumbing and electric connections,” Fox said. “We hope to have it open and operating before the Fourth of July weekend.”
The restroom installation marks the final piece in a multi-phase effort to reimagine White’s Road Park as a more accessible, family-friendly destination.
It began with the 2021 opening of an award-winning inclusive playground, followed by the addition of a new pavilion in 2023. Together, these projects have turned the tree-lined green space into one of the borough’s most inviting places to gather, relax, and play.
“This project was funded through the Montco 2040 Implementation Grant Program and the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Local Share Account (LSA) Grant,” Fox said, emphasizing the importance of outside funding support in making the upgrades possible.
To prepare the site for the new facility, contractor Wexcon trenched water and sewer lines from the pavilion to the pedestrian bridge, with plans to reseed the disturbed grass this week. Final utility connections are expected to be completed by the end of June, Fox said.
Once operational, the restrooms will open each morning and automatically lock at dusk. Extended hours are planned for the borough’s popular concert nights — a welcome development as the White’s Road Park Summer Concert Series kicks off Tuesday with the Montgomery County Concert Band.
“We’re coordinating with the Police Department to include the facility in their nightly patrol,” Fox said. “And we hope to install security cameras in that area in the future.”
For the many families, runners, musicians, and park-goers who frequent White’s Road Park, the new facility is more than a modern convenience — it is the final note in a carefully composed symphony of upgrades.
Come July, it will stand ready as Lansdale tunes up for another season of summer fun. Also a reminder: Both White's Road and Fourth Street Pools open daily for the season Wednesday.
