Fireworks, food trucks could be called off for weather
Keep one eye on the weather forecast for North Wales Borough on Saturday, and another on the town’s social media channels.
Town officials are watching warily as the date of the town’s annual summer kickoff is approaching quickly.
“This past weekend, it said ‘Thunderstorms, Friday and Saturday, it was going to be a washout,’ and it ended up being a little sprinkle and a great weekend,” said Borough Manager Christine Hart.
Each year the town kicks off the summer with a festival held in Weingartner Park that includes food trucks, crafts for kids, and a fireworks show to end the night. This year’s festival will run from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will feature several new additions, the manager told the council on Tuesday night.
Those taking part will include Soundwave Band, Ten7 Brewing Company, Well Crafted Brewing, Big Red Bites, El Toro Serrano, Farmstead Foods, Flatbelly Vegan, Kono Pizza Truck, Little’s Ice Cream and Water Ice, Mr. Burger, Philly Funnel Cake, Soul Brothers Meats, local Scout Troop 84, and borough landmark Tex Mex Connection.
Sponsors for the day’s event include the North Wales Community Day committee, William R. May Funeral Home, Tex Mex, Linda McAdoo in memory of Mike McAdoo, a donor in memory of Scott Vogel, Nick and Sandy Paulson, Jim and Linda Schiele and Jim and Neree Sando, according to the manager, who told council on Tuesday night that the event won’t have a rain date.
“We will keep a close eye on the weather and make a decision as to how we’re going to handle the kickoff. The food trucks, most likely, would just roll over to next year, but we would not pick another date within the summer — most people, once school lets out, start their vacations, and all the food trucks are booked” for later weekends, she said.
Any decision on cancelling will be posted on the town’s website and Instagram, and Facebook pages and sent out via the Savvy Citizen notification system, and the next major events on the town’s calendar are the annual Main Street parade on July 4, followed by the annual Community Day gathering in late September.
“Fireworks and fall don’t usually go hand in hand, so we’re hoping for the best, but we will post on Savvy if there’s any plans to cancel the event. I’m hoping that doesn’t happen: we’re looking forward to it,” Hart said.
