A Philadelphia man accused of driving a stolen SUV that ran out of gas in Franconia Township will be arraigned in Montgomery County Court on a felony charge of receiving stolen property after waiving charges at a preliminary hearing last week.

Darnell Marquez Watson, 37, of the 5400 block of Arlington Street, was also charged by police in April with a summary charge of driving while operating privileges are suspended or revoked, according to charging documents.

Police said a resident around Augusta Drive and Oakmont Drive West reported a suspicious vehicle parked in front of her home on April 3 at 11:38 a.m.

Upon arrival, police contacted the driver, identified as Watson, who was parked in the intersection. Police said the Ford Explorer was not running, but the key was in the ignition. When asked why he was there, Watson said he was trying to meet someone, police said.

It appeared the Ford had run out of gas, police said. When asked where he was coming from, Watson said he was driving to meet someone but could not provide a destination address or name of the person he was meeting, police said.

Watson could not produce identification, police said.

A check of the vehicle’s registration found that it was stolen in Philadelphia on April 2, police said.

Watson’s license was suspended, police said, and a records check found a history of driver’s license suspensions.

Represented by a public defender, Watson is jailed on $77 cash bail.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
