What’s the Ceiling for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2025?

It’s been a busy offseason for the Pittsburgh Steelers heading into the upcoming 2025 NFL season. From a betting outlook, Pittsburgh has oddsmakers valuing them at plus odds (+125) to make the playoffs, with their current win total set to 8.5 games.

Steelers general manager Omar Khan just inked a three-year contract with the organization. Meanwhile, head coach Mike Tomlin prepares for his 19th season in this role, effectively making him the most active tenured head coach in the league.

“I am excited to announce we have signed Omar to a new three-year contract,” Steelers President Art Rooney II released via statement. “Omar and his team have done a great job over the past three years in constructing our roster through the NFL Draft, strategic trades, and free agency. We look forward to continuing that trend that will lead to even more success on the field.”

Khan’s biggest moves during free agency have included acquiring WR DK Metcalf and QB Aaron Rodgers to refurbish the team’s offense. TE Jonnu Smith and RB Kenneth Gainwell are other notable additions that should help Pittsburgh become a more well-balanced offense under OC Arthur Smith in 2025.

Defensively, the Steelers just acquired CB Jalen Ramsey from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for long-time S Minkah Fitzpatrick. The secondary was targeted heavily by Khan this offseason, adding S Juan Thornhill and CB Darius Slay, while extending S DeShon Elliott.

Pittsburgh hasn’t missed the playoffs since 2022. In 2024, QB Russell Wilson managed to lead the Steelers into a Wild Card berth, despite losing four consecutive games to close out the regular season at 10-7.

Pittsburgh still rosters multiple All-Pro defensive players, including DE T.J. Watt and DE Cameron Heyward. Patrick Queen and Alex Highsmith are two underrated linebackers, while the secondary, which struggled in 2024, has been substantially upgraded.

The loss of RB Najee Harris should allow RB Jaylen Warren to ascend to his full potential behind a good offensive line unit. OC Smith is a run-centric playcaller,  which should set up a lot of explosive play-action pass opportunities for Rodgers.

The Steelers have several high-caliber tight ends on their roster following the acquisition of Jonnu Smith. Pat Freiermuth has been a steady option in the passing attack and run blocking, while Darnell Washington’s physicality and size make him a utility weapon all over the field.

Pittsburgh has won nine or more games in five straight seasons under Tomlin. They are always hovering around .500, despite playing in the AFC North, widely viewed as the league’s most grueling and physical division.

Rodgers is all-in on Tomlin and the Steelers in what he’s stated will likely be his final season playing in the NFL. All eyes are now on a Week 1 matchup against Rodgers’ former team, the New York Jets, played at MetLife Stadium on September 7th.
