Sadgasm and Mad Tangent bring high-octane nostalgia to Lansdale’s live music scene at bar & restaurant at West Main and Wood streets
On the menu at Harper & Penny's in Lansdale this Friday night is chop suey and Pennyroyal tea.
While the streets of Lansdale wind down from the buzz with First Friday festivities, grunge and metal have a summer night date at the former Round Guys Brewery (now Harper & Penny’s) at 324 W. Main St.
The bar and restaurant will crank the volume indoors with a live concert stacked with heavy-hitting tribute acts, starting at 8 p.m.
Local favorites Sadgasm and Mad Tangent are set to bring the sounds of Nirvana and System of a Down roaring back to life for an all-ages crowd ready to headbang, howl, and maybe scream along in existential dread.
Doors, located along Wood Street, open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door. While everyone is welcome to the event, it is 21+ to drink — Round Guys beer is still on tap.
Wood Street will be closed before Mill Alley due to First Friday events.
Grunge and aggression: A recipe for catharsis
Sadgasm — yes, named after that very "The Simpsons" Nirvana parody — is more than just a nod to the flannel-soaked days of the early ’90s. With Chris Swanson (AMORA, Studwiser), Brad Parsons (Modern Culture), Dave Heck (Aaron West & the Roaring Twenties), and Adam Beigler (Big Handsome) on stage, expect a raw and reverent homage to Kurt Cobain’s tortured genius. Whether it is "Territorial Pissings" or "Breed," they are bound to strike a chord with anyone still haunted by the MTV Unplugged setlist.
Sharing the bill is Mad Tangent, a powerhouse crew channeling the chaotic precision of System of a Down. Featuring Derek Calhoun and Mike Romano of Epic Ts, along with Eric Sable (Cold Climb It, Commonwealth) and Nick Grassi (Merit, Commonwealth), the band promises a set packed with dizzying riffs and lyrical whiplash.
Fans should expect high-energy performances of SOAD staples like "Aerials," "Toxicity," and yes — "BYOB".
Lansdale’s loudest night
This is not your average Friday in Lansdale. While families explore the art, food and community of Discover Lansdale’s "Shellabrate Good Times!" First Friday just steps away, Harper & Penny’s will be the go-to spot for fans who prefer their nostalgia with distortion pedals and screaming vocals.
Whether you lived through the era or discovered the bands through playlists and memes, this double feature of alternative icons is your chance to scream along, jump into the pit (gently), and remember why these songs still matter.
Get there early. Bring earplugs if you need them. Come ready to rage.
