All charges, including felony assault on a police officer, were held for Montgomery County Common Pleas Court at a preliminary hearing this week for a Pottstown man accused of resisting arrest, spitting on officers, and attempting to damage a police vehicle.

Police said Demetrius Char Anderson, 32, was located around 9:55 a.m. July 8, outside a residence on the 100 block of South Broad Street in Lansdale Borough. Officers were aware Anderson was wanted on an active trespassing warrant issued by Pottstown authorities, according to the affidavit.

When officers approached to take him into custody, Anderson allegedly resisted, pulling away multiple times. It reportedly took three officers to secure him in handcuffs.

While in custody, Anderson remained combative and hostile, according to police. He allegedly screamed in officers’ faces at close range, despite repeated commands to stop. Police said he also spit on a sergeant, who reported feeling droplets land on his person during the outburst.

Anderson was arrested and placed in the back of a police cruiser, where he allegedly tried to kick out a window during transport. Upon arrival at the Lansdale Police Department, officers said Anderson continued to behave aggressively inside a holding cell.

At about 10:04 a.m., officers attempted to remove Anderson’s handcuffs and secure the cell door when he reportedly lunged at an officer, striking him in the chest multiple times with an open hand in an apparent attempt to escape, police said.

Anderson is charged with aggravated assault, felony assault of a law enforcement officer, misdemeanor assault and resisting arrest, and harassment, in addition to the original trespassing warrant.

Anderson remains jailed on $10,077 cash bail, which includes a probation/parole detainer. He is represented by a public defender.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
