2-story Lansdale twin home uninhabitable after Friday night fire

The fire was reported by neighbors on North Towamencin Avenue shortly after 6 p.m.

A fire left a two-story twin home on the 100 block of North Towamencin Avenue in Lansdale Borough uninhabitable Friday evening.

The two-alarm fire at 121 N. Towamencin Ave., at the corner of West Third street, a stone's throw from Boardroom Spirits, was reported around 6:12 p.m. by neighbors, one of which heard an explosion, according to initial Montgomery County emergency dispatch reports.

The fire was contained to the rear porch and back of the masonry-and-frame house. A cause or origin is unknown at this time. Firefighters cut holes in the roof of the home for ventilation to aid in extinguishing and controlling the fire.

There are no reported injuries. The fire was brought under control within a half hour. The number of displaced persons is unknown Friday.

Responding units included Fairmount Fire Co. of Lansdale, Lansdale Police, Towamencin Vol. Fire Co., Hatfield Vol. Fire Co., Upper Gwynedd Township Fire, Worcester Fire, Fire Department of Montgomery Township, VMSC Emergency Medical Services, Colmar Fire Co., Telford Fire Co., North Penn Fire Co., and Perseverance Fire Co. of Souderton.

According to Montgomery County land records, the owners have resided in the home since November 1978.
