Northbound lanes of Interstate 476 are reduced to one lane due to the accident.
First responders were called to put out a blaze on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, according to county dispatch, this evening.
According to the county’s website, calls were received around 5:35 p.m. on Thursday, July 24 for the reports of a vehicle fire in the area of Franconia Township, on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike northbound, near the ramp of Route 63.
Witnesses said that the incident involved a fully engulfed recreational vehicle (RV), which was towing another vehicle. Those at the scene reported that the occupants were out of the involved vehicles and the units were pulled to the side of the road.
According to witnesses at the scene, the rear of a midsized RV, as well as the front end of the car it was towing, was destroyed by the fire. Crews had the blaze under control by 6:10 p.m.
Due to the accident, traffic on northbound 476 is reduced to one lane. Heavy traffic delays remain at this time.
Responding to the scene were units from the Tylersport Fire Company and the Towamencin Fire Company, among other first responders. No injuries have yet been reported.
