A weekend vehicle accident closed roads in Franconia Township for over an hour Sunday, July 20, leaving three injured parties, according to police.
Around 3:30 p.m., on Sunday, county dispatch received calls about a two-car collision at Allentown Road and Harleysville Pike. One vehicle, a grey Nissan Pathfinder, was overturned, while a second car, a red Subaru, sustained heavy front-end damage.
Franconia Township Police Officer Wayne Pursell said that the Subaru contained only the driver, while the Nissan had a mother driving and young girl in the back seat. All three were injured and transported to Grand View Hospital, though Pursell added their injuries were “nothing life threatening.”
Cameras of the accident did show that the driver of the red Subaru ran a red light, causing the crash. The impact forced the Nissan to flip “at least three, maybe four times,” according to Pursell.
“[The grey Nissan] came to rest about 150 feet north of Harleysville Pike.
Police said that the driver will be cited for a red-light violation. All three persons were rescued from the wreckage. Roads at the intersection were closed in all four directions until around 4:35 p.m. as first responders helped to clear the scene.
Responding to the scene were Franconia and Lower Salford police departments, Perseverance Fire Company of Souderton, Telford Fire Company, and VMSC, among other first responders.
