A new leader is now in charge of Lansdale’s finance department, just in time for budget season.
Council members and the public were introduced to the town’s newest finance director in mid-June.
“I am pleased to introduce Mr. Christopher Shannon, who’s joining the Lansdale Borough leadership team as our director of finance,” said borough Public Works Director Jason Van Dame.
“Christopher brings close to 40 years’ experience in various finance positions, including ten years in various governmental roles,” he said.
In late March the borough announced the search for a new director of finance, who would be the fifth person to hold that post since the start of 2021, and said interviews were underway at that time while several other area municipalities were conducting similar searches. The new arrival met council and the public on June 18, as Van Dame introduced him before two finance-related action items.
“Although working in a municipality is a new experience for Chris, we are confident that his experience working for the state of New Jersey, South Carolina’s office of resilience, and Puerto Rico’s department of housing will blend nicely with our needs,” Van Dame said.
Shannon brings a bachelor’s degree in economics and a master’s degree in finance and entrepreneurship to town, he added.
He is the town’s third new department head this year, after Van Dame shifted from the town’s code director to public works and the town’s fire marshal to the code post.
Shannon “has held many leadership positions, and we feel he will be a great mentor to developing the future leaders of our finance team,” Van Dame said.
Council then unanimously approved two resolutions relating to him, one authorizing Shannon to access bank, bill-paying and other borough financial accounts, and the other naming him to the role of borough treasurer effective immediately.
Lansdale’s borough council next meets at 7 p.m. on July 16 and the administration and finance committee next meets at 6:30 p.m. on August 6, both at the borough municipal building,1 Vine Street. For more information visit www.Lansdale.org.
