North Penn junior drives in two, including game-winner in 3–2 triumph at Hostelley Field in the Bux-Mont American Legion matchup

Trey Brennan, a rising junior at North Penn High School, played the hero’s role for Nor-Gwyn on Wednesday night, delivering a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh to seal a 3-2 win over Doylestown in a Bux-Mont American Legion matchup at Hostelley Field, according to The Reporter.

“Every at-bat I got started off with a fastball, every at-bat I just missed the fastball,” Brennan told The Reporter. “So going up there, I knew I could do some serious damage. And I wanted a fastball.”

With the bases loaded and one out, Brennan drove the first pitch deep enough into center field to bring home Alex Pyle for the winning run, snapping a two-game losing streak for the Hawks (4-5).

“I told (North Penn baseball head coach Kevin) Manero (in the stands) I was going to put it in the parking lot,” Brennan said in the report. “But I didn’t quite do that. But one of the thing he preaches, infield in, hit in the air and I got that done.”

Brennan was instrumental throughout the game, collecting two RBIs, including a two-out single in the third that gave Nor-Gwyn a 1-0 lead, according to the report. While his spring season with North Penn was mostly spent on the mound, Brennan has been sharpening his swing in preparation for a larger offensive role, per The Reporter.

“I didn’t hit at all except for Florida but I was still always down the cages working with Coach (Frank) Yanni and Coach (Mark) Renda, working on my swing, trying to perfect it for the years coming up,” he said. “So it’s just about trusting what I’ve been doing and just being confident enough to go out there, even though I might not be feeling good, I’m still going to trust it and I’m going to make myself feel good.”

Nor-Gwyn built a 2-0 lead before Doylestown tied the game in the top of the sixth. Starter Michael Capilato, pitching with a torn labrum, threw a complete game, striking out 10 and scattering five hits over seven innings, according to the article.

Capilato kept the game tied by retiring the side in order in the top of the seventh. That set the stage for the Hawks' final rally, which began when Pyle was hit by a pitch and continued with singles from leadoff hitter Jeremiah Criger and Christian Barnes. Brennan then capitalized with his game-winning fly.

The walk-off win was a bright moment for Nor-Gwyn before a narrow 7–6 defeat to league-leading Quakertown on Sunday at Quakertown Memorial Park Stadium.

Nor-Gwyn’s victory over Doylestown, however, comes as the team looks to climb the Bux-Mont standings. Doylestown (9-3) remains in second place, while Nor-Gwyn sits in fourth in the eight-team league.
