Always a crowd pleaser, Hank last year proclaimed an early spring was on the way, in agreement with his western Pennsylvania counterpart.
Yes, it’s that time of year for the local counterpart to Punxsutawney Phil to make his prediction. Harleysville Hank is ready to join the celebration of all things Pennsylvania Dutch.
The 10th annual Harleysville Hank Groundhog Day Extravaganza will be on Saturday, Feb 1. at 9 a.m. at the Mennonite Heritage Center.
Always a crowd pleaser, Hank last year proclaimed an early spring was on the way, in agreement with his western Pennsylvania counterpart.
Community members are encouraged to join Hank to see if spring is around the corner of if winter will be putting in some more appearances. Coffee and hot chocolate will be available at 8:45 a.m, said the Mennonite Heritage Center. Breakfast traditonally includes scrapple, funny cake and shoo-fly pie.
Held in partnership with the Indian Valley Chamber of Commerce, the event has quickly become a beloved tradition that celebrates the region’s rich Pennsylvania Dutch heritage, featuring Groundhog Day carols, warm beverages and treats.
“The Harleysville Hank Groundhog Extravaganza is a fun opportunity to celebrate this region’s unique heritage and, most importantly, to come together as a community and have some fun,” said Indian Valley Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Steve Hunsberger.
In the meantime, community members are encouraged to check out Hank’s Facebook page to follow his pre-prognostication adventures around the community, said the center.
