A red Kia sedan narrowly avoided colliding with cars in at the Broad and Main street intersection in Lansdale Borough Monday night, before driving up onto the curb and sidewalk and crashing into a gas meter in between White Jasmin Thai Cuisine at 5 W. Main St. and Nostalgic Collectibles, avoiding any major damage to the business or building.
The accident occurred around 5:52 p.m. and Main Street is closed between Broad and Green streets. The vehicle came to rest against the wall of the Thai restaurant, per reports from the scene.
One person was transported from the scene to an area hospital.
According to Montgomery County emergency dispatch reports, the vehicle struck a gas meter, and since the building owner is out of town and unreachable, emergency responders may breach the rear door to determine the severity of a leak.
Lansdale Police, Fairmount Fire Co. of Lansdale and VMSC Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene.
All occupants were able to exit the vehicle.
Hauck’s Garage responded to tow the vehicle from the scene.
One driver who was returning a rental car came within inches of being hit by the Kia’s driver.
“The irony is, I was in a rental car and was going to return it,” said the female driver from Lansdale, who wished to remain anonymous. “He (the driver) swerved around the car sitting at the red light and drove right in front of me as I was going through the intersection. Then, I saw the car drive up on the sidewalk.”
Colmar Fire Co. has been called to the scene to assist in evacuation of the building, as of 6:15 p.m.
Avoid the area.
