Disciplinary action and possible criminal charges await the student, according to North Penn School District officials.
Towamencin Township Police said an 18-year-old North Penn High School student was caught with a weapon, a deer carcass, and drugs inside their vehicle during a traffic stop on school property Wednesday.
North Penn High School Principal Kyle Hassler, in an email Wednesday afternoon to parents, said the school was notified by police of a traffic violation close to the school in which the driver was pulled over by police on school property.
"The stop resulted in the search of a student's car and illegal drug paraphernalia was found," stated Hassler in the email. "On a subsequent search, police found hunting weapons and the remains of a deer."
Towamencin Township Police Chief Tim Troxel said the incident is under investigation and the student has not yet been charged and is not in custody.
"We are currently in the process of executing search warrants for the vehicle, which is secured in our evidence garage," Troxel said. "Any weapons in the vehicle at the time of the traffic stop are, therefore, currently in our possession as well.
Troxel said preliminary investigations show that the weapons and carcass are related to hunting and there was no threat or danger to the school or students.
In his email, Hassler echoed the same sentiment.
"Towamencin Township Police Department and NPSD officials do not believe that there was ever an intent to use the weapons on campus or a threat to the school," Hassler wrote. "However, any type of weapon on school property is prohibited and will result in disciplinary action and possible criminal charges. Please remind your students of the seriousness of such actions."
The name, gender and hometown of the student involved was not released by police or the school district.
