Each year as part of the Reading Super Bowl, North Penn High School football players travel to elementary schools across the district, reading to young students and encouraging a love of literacy.

The program is held at the same time as the NFL’s Super Bowl, and this year will also be a “Soup-er” Bowl, collecting canned goods for Manna on Main Street.

Through Feb. 5, community members can drop off canned food donations at the Educational Services Center (401 E Hancock Street, Lansdale). There is also a drop off location at North Penn High School (1340 Valley Forge Rd, Lansdale) for those visiting the school.

Donations will be delivered to Manna on Main Street by the NPHS football team. Each school in the North Penn School District is also competing to see who can collect the most across the district’s 18 schools.

The Reading Super Bowl has been a North Penn tradition since 2005, the first year the program was held, with 30 football players visiting 8 elementary schools. This year, 80 players will visit all 13 elementary schools, reaching over 6,000 North Penn elementary students to celebrate literacy and a love of reading. The event is mutually beneficial, encouraging young students to read and find a love of books while also providing high school students the opportunity to be role models for younger students and develop leadership skills.

In addition to NPSD and the 12th Knight Booster Club, this event is supported by the North Penn School District Educational Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization providing North Penn students with enhanced educational experiences and resources.
