After almost 37 years in business, Hatfield Borough's iconic and historic Casey's Saloon & Eatery announced its closure Friday on Facebook, as well as the sale of its liquor license and the fact that the building is on the market.

"All good things must come to an end," wrote the saloon at noon. "This is very hard for us to write, but our time owning Casey’s is coming to an end. This will probably be our last weekend serving alcohol. We have sold our license and the building is now up for sale."

The eatery plans on staying open for an undetermined amount of time as a BYOB.

The owners called their experience "an amazing ride."

"We thank all of you from the bottom of our hearts. Your loyalty and generosity in good times and bad have meant the world to us. We hope to see you this weekend to celebrate Casey’s and the next chapter of our lives,” ended the post.

The 1,550-square-foot building at 210 S. Main St. served as a small grocery store from 1939 until 1958, when it became The Speedway Grill, according to the Hatfield History & Museum Society. Most clientele at the time were racers and spectators from the nearby Hatfield Speedway on Fairgrounds Road.

Casey’s would eventually open in June 1988.

According to Montgomery County property records, Edward and Barbara Banes owned the one-tenth-of-an-acre property until 1988, selling it to Anthony Waslesyn and Michael Loeffler for $120,000. The two then formed Wasloe Inc. in February 1990.

The eatery will open at noon Saturday to start its celebration send-off. There will be a 10 a.m. Sunday champagne brunch. Sunday night specials will end at 8.

Specials this weekend include:

Sea Bass Beurre Noir – Pan-seared filet of sea bass in a lemon caper brown butter sauce, with two sides and soup or salad - $26.

Red Onion Marmalade Pork Tenderloin - Grilled center-cut pork tenderloin served with housemade red onion marmalade and buttered whipped red bliss potatoes, plus one side and soup or salad - $26.

Soup Friday night is Mulligatawny, as well as French Onion.

Casey’s is taking reservations for Friday and Saturday night, with kitchen closing at 9 p.m.

The property is zoned Class C-Commercial-Bar or Taproom, per county property records.

According to the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, as of Friday, Jan. 17, the liquor licensee is Freedom 7 Inc. at Casey's Saloon & Eatery, with Waslesyn and Loeffler as officers. The license includes a Sunday sales permit. The license, which has had two citations in the past six years, is active until April 30, 2025, per the PA LCB.
