All charges, including aggravated assault on an officer, were held for county arraignment against a Hatfield Township man, who is an inmate at Montgomery County Correctional Facility, following a preliminary hearing Tuesday.

Abedelah Fike Alyasri, 20, of the 2400 block of School Road, was charged by Montgomery County detectives Jan. 3 with felony aggravated harassment by a prisoner, aggravated assault and misdemeanor charges of simple assault and recklessly endangering another person for allegedly spitting in the face of a corrections officer while jailed in a cell at the Lower Providence Township jail’s medical division, police said.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 19 at 10 a.m., an officer was on duty inside the jail, posted as a medical supervisor overseeing medical staff who were evaluating inmates.

The victim was speaking to another inmate in a cell, when Alyasri, who was housed in the neighboring cell, allegedly spit through a small gap in the door frame and a glass panel.

The spit struck the right side of the victim’s face and uniform, police said. The officer was relieved of duty and evaluated by medical staff, per the complaint.

Authorities said the encounter was captured on body camera and facility security footage.

Alyasri remains jailed on $5,077 cash bail, which includes a probation detainer, per court records. Arraignment in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court is set for 9:30 a.m. Feb. 26.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
