The Hatfield Township Fire Marshal and Emergency Management Coordinator said the first floor fire at 1218 Clymer Road on Tuesday morning remains under investigation, and the American Red Cross has responded to assist the displaced Skrzat family.

Fire Marshal Mike Waldron said Friday that there was no one home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries.

Clymer Road remained closed between Orvilla Road and Holly Lane until the scene was cleared at 1:02 p.m., he said.

Responding fire companies included Hatfield, Colmar, Fairmount of Lansdale, Montgomery Township, Hilltown, Towamencin, Perseverance of Souderton, VMSC Emergency Medical Services, Hatfield Police, and Hatfield and Lansdale Borough fire marshals.

According to Montgomery County emergency dispatch reports, the call came in at 10:40 a.m. reporting heavy smoke coming from the house and emanating from a wood stove. Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke showing from the eaves of the 1-and-a-half-story home, per reports.

A GiveSendGo fundraising campaign was launched in the wake of the fire for the Joshua and Michele Skrzat and their three children, created by family friend Gina Toro. As of Sunday, the campaign has raised $34,358 toward the $50,000 goal.

“God is good and no one was in the house at the time. The best way we can help their family is to pray and give financially to cover their needs over the next several months. This will be a marathon with no certainty of being made whole,” wrote Toro. “We know the Skrzats are surrounded by incredible people and we have an amazing opportunity to come together now to bless them.”

The Skrzats have also been helpful in supporting the Souderton Area Baseball League. According to a Facebook post from the League rallying support behind the Skrzats, since joining the league in 2019, the family has been a vital part of the community.

“Both their son and daughter, who proudly plays baseball, have brought energy and spirit to the field. They’ve always been willing to lend a helping hand whenever needed, embodying what SABL is all about,” stated the post.

According to county property records, the Skrzats bought the 1950s Cape Cod stucco home in 2013.
