Whether you are seeking to cheer your heart out, root on your favorite team, or simply find your zen with yoga or nature, there is a little bit of something for everyone in this week's This Week Now. Find fun things to do, work to meet your resolution, or simply have a good laugh. Check out these great events throughout the Philadelphia suburbs.

Battle of the Counties Cheer Competition

Lansdale Catholic Cheerleading will host the inaugural Battle of the Counties Cheer Competition at the Montgomery County Community College Blue Bell Campus on Saturday, Jan. 11 beginning at 9 a.m. Cheer teams from throughout the area will represent their counties to find out who will be the Grand Champion. Reconnect and Reclaim: A Series for Women

The Abington-based yoga studio, FLOW Wellness, will play host to “Reconnect & Reclaim, a series for women” over an eight-week timeframe beginning on Saturday, Jan. 11. Hosted by Stacey Halstead, the sessions will be held on Saturdays for the coming eight weeks from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. The final meeting will be March 1. Spots can be reserved online here. Reading with Fuzzy Friends

The Upper Moreland Public Library will host “Reading with Fuzzy Friends” on Saturday, Jan. 11 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. which welcomes those of all ages to come in to read to real, live dogs. Located at 109 Park Ave., in Willow Grove, the library encourages interested readers to pre-register online here.

Open Mic Night
Bring your instrument and sing or sing with your backing track at The Kelly Center’s Open Mic Night, Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 7 p.m. Microphones and public address systems are provided. A keyboard, guitar, and drum kit will also be available. There are a limited number of signups to ensure each act gets three songs. Participants may want to arrive closer to 6:30 p.m. to be sure you get a slot. A house band is normally available to back you up, if you wish. Admission is free for all, but donations are welcome. The Kelly Center is at 4 E. Eagle Road, in Havertown.

Quilting Reception
On Friday, Jan. 10 at 5:30 p.m., the Newtown Public Library will host the Main Line Quilters, with a special presentation about a huge, historic 1853 Quaker Friendship Quilt.
Guests are welcome to come meet the creators of these phenomenal quilts, and hear a bit about the friendship quilt from 1853, with 97 names signed onto it. The Newtown Public Library is at 201 Bishop Hollow Road, in Newtown Square.

The Lads and Colleen of Comedy
Jokes, stories, and laughter all centered around the Irish American experience will all be included on with the Lads and Colleen of Comedy show on Saturday, Jan 11, with seating at 7 p.m., with the showtime at 8 p.m. Celebrate the luck and laughter of this Irish themed comedy show, which touches upon family, friends, wakes, Catholic school, the good sister, and Guinness! Did we mention Guinness? Whether you are of Celtic descent, married one, or even know one, you won’t be able to find a better evening! The show will be at the Media Theatre, 104 East State St., in Media.

Comedy Night at Well Crafted Beer with Bonnie McFarlane

Well Crafted Beer Co. at 310 Madison St. in Lansdale brings comedy back to its venue on Thursday night at 8:30 with comedienne Bonnie McFarlane. Event runs on Jan. 9 until 10 p.m., with doors at 7 p.m. 21 and older only. Get tickets here. A national headlining comedian, McFarlane’s radio and television credits includes an HBO special, two comedy central specials, three Letterman appearances, a Tonight Show appearance, The Howard Stern Show and a regular on the Opie and Anthony/Jimmy radio show. McFarlane hosts the podcast “My Wife Hates Me” with husband and comedian Rich Vos and co-hosts a national radio show on SiriusXM with Vos.

Penn State Orange Bowl Watch Party

Chickie’s & Petes, 510 Easton Road, Warrington, holds a PSU Football Orange Bowl Watch Party on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 7:30 p.m., hosted by the Bucks County Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association. Mention “Penn State Watch Party” at the host stand on arrival for special seating. A percentage of the bill will go toward the chapter. Attendees will receive a ticket for door prizes during the game.

Owl Prowl at the Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy

The Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy is challenging the pubic to spend 500 minutes outside during January, as part of the Perki-500. The event offers various challenges to complete along with exclusive events. The next event is Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Conservancy at 1 Skippack Pike, Skippack Township. (GPS: Schwenksville) where attendees can learn about owls. Register for the event here. After the session, the group will hit the Perkiomen Trail East Branch to practice owl calls and see “hoo” they can find.
