A Devon, Pa. man with two prior convictions for retail theft has been charged by Hatfield Police with felony retail theft and misdemeanor receiving stolen property for allegedly stealing two chicken empanadas from Wawa.
Ignacio Magana, 29, of the 300 block of Dundee Place, arrived at the Wawa at 119 Bethlehem Pike in the Colmar section of the township a little before 3 p.m. on Jan. 29, police said, in a white Mercedes, and parked in front of the store for 40 minutes.
He walked to the food warming station near the register, took two chicken empanadas, priced at $3.29 each, and then immediately left the store, police said. A manager then called police at 4 p.m.
Magana then allegedly ate the empanadas right outside the entrance, and even offered a bite to the Wawa manager who called police.
When police arrived, Magana said he knew they were there because he stole some food, per the affidavit.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
