On Friday, Dec. 12, from the Towamencin Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) presented North Wales librarian Jennifer Koch with the chapter’s Literacy Award.

This award is reserved for persons who have contributed significantly within a community to promote literacy.

For the past year and a half, Jennifer Koch has served as Director of the North Wales Area Library, where she has reimagined what a community library can be.

Under her leadership, the library has blossomed with innovative programming including Thoughtful Thursdays for adults and Storybook Sprouts for young learners.

These initiatives have deepened the library’s connection to patrons of all ages.

Jennifer’s commitment to inclusive community partnership is illustrated by her collaboration with North Penn High School’s Transitional Learning program. Through this initiative, she has created meaningful employment opportunities for aged-out students, transforming lives, while enriching the library’s mission.

Her strategic approach to development has brought vital new grants and donor relationships to the library, ensuring the sustainability of programs that serve as lifelines within the community.

Through Jennifer’s initiative, the library has received a grant for North Penn students to exhibit their artwork in the library and to have a high school student center.

Jennifer’s goals include providing a library in which every community member finds a place to grow, learn, and belong.

She is most proud of the North Wales Library’s welcoming, inclusive atmosphere and the extraordinary community she serves alongside daily.

She values the dedicated board members, volunteers, and remarkable families who bring the library to life.

The Towamencin Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) is pleased to be able to recognize the contributions to literacy that Jennifer Koch is making.

The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution is a nonprofit, nonpolitical volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children and adults.
