The Lansdale Historical Society is mourning the loss of a local historian.

“We are saddened to report the passing of our former president and board member Clarence Kinsey,” LHS said in a Facebook post.

Kinsey passed away on Dec. 12 at Elm Terrace Gardens in Lansdale at age 88, and his wife of 66 years Patricia passed away in October, according to LHS. Kinsey was a longtime volunteer and officer of the society, who served as that group’s president from 2016 until 2018.

“During his years with LHS, Clarence was best known for his organizational skills, most notably bringing order to our massive photograph collection which includes tens of thousands of vintage images. As a result, these photos are now easily assessable to our staff and the public,” LHS said.

“He also established a directory of businesses that operated in Lansdale beginning in the late 1800s, and he organized the storage areas in both the Jenkins Homestead and our Research Center,” the society said.

Kinsey was also a member of the Lansdale Jaycees, where he was a pitcher for their fast pitch softball team, and in his free time enjoyed collecting model trains, Sunday drives, and photography, according to his obituary from Huff and Lakjer Funeral Home in Lansdale.

The family will receive visitors Tuesday, January 13, 2026 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Huff and Lakjer, 701 Derstine Avenue, and a “time of family sharing” will begin at 11 a.m.

“Above all, we will miss him dearly as a friend who would share a joke, a conversation about sports, politics, cars, talk around town and history (of course). We extend our condolences to the Kinsey family,” LHS said.
