Grounded in Every Market — How Goettl Employees Choose Causes That Reflect Their Communities

Across the Southwest, Goettl Air Conditioning & Plumbing has built its reputation one home and one relationship at a time. From Reno to San Antonio, its licensed technicians and plumbers deliver heating, cooling, and plumbing solutions backed by a 100 percent satisfaction guarantee.

Every service call is an opportunity to live out the company’s motto: “We do things the right way, not the easy way.” That promise guides every aspect of Goettl’s work, from the precision and attention to detail to the way the company supports the community in the areas it serves.

At Goettl, caring isn’t just a statement: it’s a standard. The company believes that when associates feel seen, valued, and connected to a larger purpose, they thrive. That belief inspired Goettl’s pledge to Local Commitment, which is their public commitment to strengthening communities through collaboration, engagement, and sustainability.

The Ingenious Past Shaping Goettl’s Future

Goettl’s connection to the regions it serves stretches back to 1939, when Gust and Adam Goettl founded the company. In the early 1940s, the brothers temporarily shifted their operations to support the U.S. during World War II by manufacturing lifeboats, stepping up for the community when it was most needed.

In the years after the war, they drove through neighborhoods with mobile cooling units so that people could feel air conditioning for the first time in their lives.

Their work led to more than 100 patents in sheet metal and HVAC technology, including the first residential air-to-air cooling units and two well-known systems from the 1970s called the Gas Pack and the Piggy-Back.

By 1978, they were installing Arizona’s first residential solar water heater. In the decades that followed, they became early Energy Star partners and supported federal efficiency standards before the American Refrigeration Institute adopted them.

That same spirit of innovation carried Goettl into the modern era, where the company continues to look for better ways to care for its customers and keep up with changing home-comfort needs.

Today, customers can enroll in the Smart Sadie Maintenance Plan, which uses SmartAC sensor technology to monitor system performance in real time and identify potential issues early. It also includes scheduled heating, cooling, and plumbing visits that help equipment run smoothly throughout the year.

Goettl researches new tools, studies emerging technology, and stays involved in industry conversations that influence the future of HVAC and plumbing. All of these efforts help ensure that customers are being served with the most reliable and up-to-date home comfort solutions.

Internally, associate programs like the Culture Champions, and collaborative communication spaces, like the HVAC and Plumbing Councils, give employees a platform to voice their ideas, collaborate across departments and branch locations, and try out new concepts through small pilot projects.

Together, these practices help Goettl stay informed about what employees are seeing in the field and adapt its processes in ways that benefit both its customers, company, and teams.

Local Giving Chosen by Local Hands

As Goettl expanded across the country, it became clear that every market had its own needs and challenges. The employees working inside customers’ homes and neighborhoods understood those differences better than anyone, which is why their insight guides the company’s community involvement.

Instead of relying on a large, centralized list of nonprofits, Goettl turns to its teams through Goettl Gives, an initiative that supports local organizations where its employees live and work. Goettl Gives focuses on four main pillars, which include empowering veterans, creating opportunities for children, caring for pets, and improving access to clean and safe water.

One of the program’s most impactful efforts is Kindness in the Air (KITA), a partnership with local news stations across all of Goettl’s service areas. Through this initiative, each branch selects 12 nonprofit organizations that resonate with its team and community. Every month, a branch representative presents a $1,000 donation to that month’s nonprofit to support the work it does for local residents and neighborhoods.

Each check presentation is televised throughout the month, helping amplify the organization’s mission and increase community awareness.

Because of this localized approach, Kindness in the Air looks a little different in every market. Each branch champions the causes it knows best, ensuring the program continues to uplift real people, real causes, and real communities.

In Austin, employees recently chose Skillpoint Alliance, a nonprofit that offers free, accelerated training in competitive fields like HVAC, plumbing, electrical work, and construction. Students complete their programs in just four to eight weeks and graduate with industry-recognized certifications.

For several Goettl employees, selecting Skillpoint Alliance felt especially meaningful because they had been through the organization’s training programs themselves. Now, they come back as mentors and support new trainees as they work their way through the program.

Goettl’s donation helped cover the cost of transportation, tools, safety gear, coaching, and childcare for parents participating in the program.

The Austin branch also joined Phoenix and San Antonio in a regional backpack giveaway that provided 3,500 fully stocked backpacks to students.

The San Antonio branch has chosen organizations such as the American Cancer Society, Blue Cares, and Biomed San Antonio. In August, they picked the Housing Authority of Bexar County, which supports residents across the county with housing assistance, resources, and programs that help families move toward long-term security.

The team also participates in major local events, like Fiesta San Antonio, where they sponsored the Pooch Parade and the King William Fair. They also served as the presenting sponsor of the King William Organization’s Summer Concert Series.

Phoenix teams have supported Arizonans for Children, Valley of the Sun United Way, Keep Phoenix Beautiful, and the Arizona Humane Society. They also recently served as the water sponsor at the Arizona Animal Welfare League’s Walk for Animals.

Tucson employees selected Youth On Their Own, the Humane Society of Southern Arizona, and SARSEF, choosing programs tied to education, animal care, and underserved families. They also supported the community through Rockin’ 4 Heroes in 2024, serving as a main sponsor and providing a hydration station at the free concert.

In Las Vegas, East Valley Family Services, Retired to Rescue, Three Square, and Vegas Cat Rescue have been past recipients. Branch employees also played a key role in Hydrate Las Vegas, an initiative that provided water and other essential items to help people cope with the area’s extreme heat.

Reno’s team selected N Y E P, Tiny Toes, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada, organizations that directly support children, families, and youth development. The branch also invests in local athletics by sponsoring the Reno Aces and the Reno Ice Raiders and partnering with the Reno Ice Rink.

How Goettl Nurtures Its Own Talent

The way Goettl approaches community giving is closely tied to how it supports its own people. Inside the company, training and mentorship are important parts of the culture. Through Goettl Academy, technicians learn from hands-on sessions, apprenticeships, and peer-guidance that draws on more than 85 years of knowledge in HVAC and plumbing.

When employees are supported, coached, and given room to grow, it shows in the care they bring into customers’ homes, and it also shapes the way they think about the communities they serve. They see firsthand which families need extra support and which local programs are making a difference.

During hiring, Goettl looks for people who care deeply about customer comfort and show a willingness to learn, even during long days or challenging conditions. Technical skills can be taught, but attitude and service matter just as much.

The company attracts and keeps the best talent by providing competitive pay, consistent full-time schedules, and ongoing training. It also works hard to foster a positive, team-focused environment where people feel valued and proud of the work they do.

To ensure employees continue to grow, Goettl sets clear expectations and checks in regularly to provide feedback on their performance. Leaders use scorecards, customer input, and quality audits to track progress. Regular one-on-one conversations allow employees to talk through what’s going well, where they need support, and how they can improve to stay aligned with the company’s high standards.

Continuing A Tradition Of Thoughtful Service

Goettl’s commitment to doing things the right way has guided the company since it was first founded, influencing everything from its service philosophy to its role in the communities it serves. It’s an ongoing expectation built on transparency, reliable work, and the belief that people deserve to feel safe both inside their homes and in their neighborhoods.

The same employees who are trusted to care for customers are also trusted to help determine where the company directs its support. Their insight brings a clearer understanding of local needs, ensuring every donation and partnership serves practical needs. It’s one more way Goettl’s values continue to show up in meaningful ways.
