Garden of Health Food Bank recently held a large-scale holiday food distribution event, providing chicken, pork, eggs, fresh produce, and shelf-stable foods to hunger relief agencies across Montgomery County.

More than 50 local food pantries took part in the event, helping more than 10,000 families access nutritious food ahead of the holidays, according to a news release.

Notably, the distribution supplied 15,000 pounds of chicken to the participating agencies. It also brought together multiple partners who provided significant quantities of food, including pork from Clemens Food Group, a full tractor-trailer of produce and shelf-stable goods from Blessings of Hope, produce from Rolling Harvest Food Rescue and eggs from Alderfer Eggs, according to the release.

“We’re seeing the highest levels of food insecurity in Montgomery County since the pandemic,” said Carol Bauer, founder and COO of Garden of Health Food Bank. “With cuts to SNAP benefits and a significant rise in demand at local pantries, today’s distribution helps ensure our neighbors have the healthy food they need during the holiday season.”

Food insecurity in Montgomery County remains at an all-time high, now exceeding rates recorded during COVID-19. Almost 100,000 residents are struggling to afford basic groceries, particularly protein and fresh foods. Garden of Health Food Bank, which partners with more than 70 food pantries and focuses on providing nutritious and allergy[1]friendly food, organized today’s distribution to help meet that growing need.

In addition to special events like today’s, Garden of Health hosts monthly community food distributions and sources produce directly from its own eight-acre farm in Hatfield Township.
