For a generation, TV executives have had a tried and true method for how to fill time during a late-season NFC East game — remind viewers that the division hasn't had a repeat winner since the Eagles did it from 2001-2004.
However, the graphic beloved by NBC, CBS, FOX and every other current or former NFL broadcast partner is on the cusp of becoming obsolete.
The Eagles throttled the Las Vegas Raiders Sunday, moving to 9-5 by virtue of a 31-0 victory. Meanwhile, the Cowboys lost 34-26 to J.J. McCarthy and the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday Night Football, dropping Dallas to 6-7-1.
With three weeks remaining, the Cowboys would have to win all three of their remaining games and have the Eagles lose out to win the NFC East.
A resounding victory against arguably the worst team in the NFL Sunday might not be enough to quell concerns about the Eagles, but it is hard to imagine them not winning one of their three remaining games, which will see two matchups with the 4-10 Washington Commanders sandwiched around a trip to Buffalo to play the Bills.
Meanwhile, the Cowboys will host the 10-4 Los Angeles Chargers Sunday, before traveling to face the Commanders on Christmas and finishing out at MetLife Stadium against the New York Giants.
If the Eagles are indeed able to wrap up their second straight NFC East title, they'll be the first team to win the division in consecutive years since Andy Reid's squad did so four years in a row from 2001-2004.
How will network producers fill the time previously occupied by the no repeat winners graphic? Probably by inserting an extra Rocky, cheesesteak or Santa story. So it's not all positive for Eagles fans.
