Maryland man charged with felony gun offense and DUI after Montgomery Township traffic stop

An Elkton, MD man is facing felony and misdemeanor charges after Montgomery Township Police said they found a loaded handgun during a DUI arrest following a traffic stop at a shopping center late last month.

Dorron Jamal Adams, 32, of the 10th block of Azalea Circle, was charged with felony firearms not to be carried without a license, misdemeanor DUI and summary traffic violations stemming from a Nov. 28, 2025 incident near the Airport Square Shopping Center on Bethlehem Pike, according to a criminal complaint.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, police were on patrol around 11:13 p.m. when they observed the driver of a red Dodge Ram traveling north on Bethlehem Pike fail to maintain their lane. Police said the vehicle also displayed a tinted license plate cover, prompting a traffic stop near Knapp Road.

When police approached the vehicle, they detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from Adams and noticed his speech was slurred, police said. Adams allegedly admitted to consuming alcohol and was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests.

Based on his performance and the officer’s observations, police determined Adams was incapable of safely operating a vehicle and placed him under arrest on suspicion of DUI, per the complaint.

During a search incident to arrest, police reported finding a loaded 9mm handgun in Adams’ left jacket pocket.

The firearm had one hollow-point round chambered and was paired with an 18-round magazine loaded to capacity, according to the complaint. Police said Adams did not possess a valid license to carry a firearm.

Adams was read Pennsylvania’s implied consent warnings and refused chemical testing, police said. Because the firearm charge was connected to a DUI arrest, the offense was graded as a third-degree felony, according to court records.

Adams is free on $15,000 unsecured bail and has a preliminary hearing Jan. 27 before Magisterial District Judge Andrea Duffy.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
