Police said Demetrius Char Anderson, of Pottstown, was combative and hostile during an arrest over the summer
A Pottstown man was sentenced this week to Montgomery County jail and subsequent probation after pleading guilty to misdemeanor simple assault for spitting on officers during an arrest in Lansdale over the summer.
Demetrius Char Anderson, 32, also pleaded guilty to misdemeanor resisting arrest and was given one year of probation following his jail term. He was sentenced to 153 days time served to 23 months in jail, according to court records.
Anderson was not prosecuted on two felonies: aggravated assault and assault of a law enforcement officer as part of the plea.
Anderson was ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation and comply with its findings, per court records.
Police said Anderson was located around 9:55 a.m. July 8, 2025 outside a residence on the 100 block of South Broad Street in Lansdale Borough.
Officers were aware Anderson was wanted on an active trespassing warrant issued by Pottstown authorities, according to the affidavit.
When officers approached to take him into custody, Anderson resisted, pulling away multiple times. It took three officers to secure him in handcuffs.
While in custody, Anderson remained combative and hostile, according to police. He screamed in officers’ faces at close range, despite repeated commands to stop. Police said he also spit on a sergeant, who reported feeling droplets land on his person during the outburst.
Anderson was arrested and placed in the back of a police cruiser, where he tried to kick out a window during transport. Upon arrival at the Lansdale Police Department, officers said Anderson continued to behave aggressively inside a holding cell.
At about 10:04 a.m., officers attempted to remove Anderson’s handcuffs and secure the cell door when he lunged at an officer, striking him in the chest multiple times with an open hand in an apparent attempt to escape, police said.
Anderson was represented by a public defender.
