The Phillies are bringing Kyle Schwarber back on a five-year/$150 million contract, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.

It's the start to the offseason that the Phillies were hoping for, as re-signing both Schwarber and J.T. Realmuto has taken precedent for Dave Dombrowski and company this offseason.

Schwarber just wrapped up a four-year/$79 million contract that proved to be incredibly team-friendly, with Schwarber making a pair of All-Star teams and hitting a staggering 187 home runs over the quartet of seasons. He saved his best season yet for his contract year, clubbing an NL-best 56 home runs, while leading baseball with 132 RBIs. Schwarber finished runner-up in NL MVP voting to Shohei Ohtani.

Though Schwarber is primarily a DH and entering his age-33 season, he does seem to be someone that's getting better with age, a bet the Phillies are making in signing him for another half decade. Consider his production in his first two seasons with the Phillies as opposed to the last two:

2022-2023: .207 batting average, 93 home runs, 198 RBI, .822 OPS

2024-2025: .244 batting average, 94 home runs, 236 RBI, .890 OPS

Schwarber's incredible power production — coupled with his reputation as one of the best leaders in baseball — allowed him to garner significant interest in free agency. The Boston Red Sox, Cincinnati Reds, Pittsburgh Pirates, Baltimore Orioles, San Francisco Giants and New York Mets were all credibly linked to Schwarber in free agency, which ultimately led to him getting this very lucrative deal to return to the Phillies.
