“The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear,” said Souderton Mayor Dan Yocum
With a rendition of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” Souderton residents summoned Santa Claus to light the borough’s Christmas tree.
“The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear,” said Souderton Mayor Dan Yocum.
Hundreds braved the freezing temperatures Friday to attend the borough’s annual tree lighting ceremony, featuring a towering artificial tree adorned with colorful lights and twinkling ornaments.
“We really live in a Hallmark town,” said Yocum. “The fact that you are all here on cold night, and it’s snowing a little bit, it’s pretty magical.”
Sponsored by Univest, the ceremony was held in the Univest courtyard for the third consecutive year. The courtyard is the precise location of the inaugural Souderton tree lighting 101 years ago.
“We look forward to many more years of hosting this wonderful event in this courtyard so we can kick off the celebration for the holidays,” said Univest CEO Jeff Schweitzer.
As the ceremony got underway, Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived on a firetruck to great fanfare, with children racing over to get a glimpse of the couple before lining up for pictures.
Rounding out the event was Christmas music, free hot chocolate and refreshments from Good Will Canteen and Christmas-flavored ice cream from Downtown Scoop.
