A Hatfield woman is facing felony charges after she allegedly rented a car from Enterprise on North Broad Street in October, but never returned it, until it was found in Montgomery Township, with her inside of it.

Ann Rapij, 66, of no fixed address, was charged last month by Hatfield Police with felony counts of theft of leased property and receiving stolen property, stemming from an incident that began on Oct. 28, 2025, according to the arrest affidavit.

On Nov. 20, 2025, at 3:47 p.m., police received a complaint for a theft of a leased car from Enterprise Rent-A-Car at 1744 N. Broad St., Hatfield, in which a blue 2024 Jeep Compass with Ohio registration was allegedly not returned by Rapij.

Detectives said Rapij rented the Jeep on Oct. 21, 2025, and she was contracted to return it on Oct. 28. Rapij, who police said provided a valid driver’s license with a photo, a photo ID and a credit or debit card as a form of payment, failed to do so, authorities allege.

Enterprise sent a certified letter to return the car via FedEx to Rapij’s address on her Pennsylvania license on the 5000 block of Stenton Avenue, Philadephia, as well as two other certified letters to another known address on the 8000 block of Hammond Road, Cheltenham, all dated Nov. 6, 2025, police said.

Hatfield Police requested Philadelphia Police make contact with Rapij at the Stenton Avenue home, but she was not there, according to the complaint. Attempts were made to call Rapij at last known phone numbers from prior contacts, but numbers were no longer in service, police said.

A license plate reader database recorded the stolen Jeep northbound on Bethlehem Pike in Montgomery Township on Nov. 7 at 8:23 p.m. Furthermore, Hatfield Police said Montgomery Township Police conducted a traffic stop on Oct. 25, 2025 on the same car with Rapij as the driver.

On Nov. 21, 2025, at 8:24 a.m., Montgomery Township Police received a report for a stolen car in the area of Garden Golf Boulevard, according to the affidavit. Rapij was allegedly found inside the car and provided a statement regarding the details of the investigation.

She was taken to Hatfield Police where she allegedly waived her constitutional warnings, police said, and provided a statement. During her statement, according to the affidavit, she admitted to renting the car at the end of October 2025, claimed her lease agreement was extended, but could not provide dates, times, and names, and admitted she receives mail at the Stenton Avenue home, frequently visiting there to retrieve it.

Rapij told police she was going to return the vehicle the day of her apprehension, according to the complaint. When asked if she communicated that with Enterprise, Rapij allegedly said she did not.

According to court records, Rapij is free on $5,000 unsecured bail ahead of a Tuesday preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Andrea Duffy.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
