Mixing history, trivia, food, and drink all for a good cause
We can all think back to a high school history class. Do you recall long, drawn-out lectures, recapping the memorable moment in the county’s past? You are desperately trying not to nod off, staring out the window, doodling in your notebook … anything to stay awake.
Thankfully, the Morgan Log House Historical Society is here to make history anything but boring. Instead of lectures and slide presentations, this group knows how to throw a real bash! Its ever-popular Tavern Night is just the trick to not only fundraise for its important work year-round, but also educate, entertain, and provide a fabulous night out for all involved.
Slated for Saturday, Sept. 27 from 5 to 9 p.m., the Tavern Night will feature delicious foods, locally-crafted beverages, and bar trivia coupled with raffles and prizes, not to mention trips back in time with walkthroughs of the historic Morgan Log House.
“Tavern Night is one of our most exciting ways to bring people together in celebration of history and community," said Molly Jobson, Executive Director of Morgan Log House. “It allows us to not only raise essential support for preservation, but also give our guests a unique opportunity to engage with history.”
Chef Chipper and the AAA Catering team will bring its best flavors to accompany concocted brews from Well Crafted Beer Co., Favorite Child Brewing Co., as well as wine from Cryrenity Sips Winery. Additionally, prizes from local businesses have been offered up as winnings for lucky raffle participants.
Chipper aims to get the night off to a tasty start with appetizers including sausage- and mozzarella-stuffed mushrooms and veggie quesadillas alongside both salsa and sour cream dippers. The delicious tastes will continue with a “Snacks” course of bruschetta with garlic parmesan toast points, house-fried pita chips with guacamole, and a fresh garden salad with sides ranch and balsamic dressings.
If your mouth isn’t watering yet, the hot sandwich entrees will include Breaded Buffalo Chicken, Pulled Barbecue Brisket, and Roasted Portabella and Red Pepper with smoked mozzarella cheese, basil, and a balsamic reduction, all three of which will be served on a club roll.
Tickets are on sale now and available at two price levels*:
● $30 – A Designated Driver Ticket
● $75 – General Admission Ticket (includes drink vouchers)
*Members can also purchase discounted tickets through the society.
Tickets will include the price of entry, all foods and three drink vouchers (dining will begin at 5:30 p.m.), entry to Bar Trivia (beginning at 7 p.m.), a walkthrough of the Morgan Log House, and a commemorative glass.
“We can’t wait to raise a glass with you,” said Jobson. “Thank you for helping keep history alive in our community.”
If you are seeking for the historical fun to continue, the Historical Society is also offering packages to extend the entertainment. A special Bitters Workshop will be held the same night at a cost of only $15 for those that attend Tavern Night.
A feature returning due to its popular demand, guests to the bonus Workshop can spend time with the log home’s garden volunteer inside the Morgan Log House’s Colonial Kitchen Garden and discover how to craft your own cocktail bitters using plants you too can grow at home! The Workshop will cover how both historic and modern herbs can be used to create bottles of bitters, and participants will go create and go home with their own handcrafted bottle to take in the “flavors and fragrances of the garden.”
Additionally, as a part of the Morgan Log House’s “Shilling for a Shingle” roof restoration project, anyone who donates $30 or more will also get a free Workshop ticket.
If you are still on the fence about attending the popular event, there is a preview of the bar trivia slated for Thursday, Sept. 11. Sneak peeks of the prizes (including one lucky winner that night), food, drinks, and history “coming alive” will all be featured to give you a small taste of the full Tavern Night experience. Tickets can be purchased for teams of four and six for a discounted price, or you can register as a solo player and be matched into a team. Tickets for the preview can be purchased online here.

Proceeds from Tavern Night directly support Morgan Log House’s mission of preserving history and expanding educational programming, as well as future site improvement projects, Jobson said.
